Pirates Wash Ashore for OB Ball
Volume 49, Issue 9

The Ocean Beach Association Ball, in a nutshell?
That’s easy: Aaaaarrrrggggghhhhhh!
And, Yo ho yo ho!
Oh yeah, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t include an Ahoy, matey!
You were either a squeamish landlubber or just stuck at Maguire’s when the party went down at the Community House Saturday night. More than 400 revelers, clad in eye patches, black caps and tattered pantaloons packed the dance floor and spilled out across the village green.
A stilt walker prowled the premises; a bubble-blowing mermaid furrowed flirtatiously under an aquamarine seashell; parrots large and small, red, yellow and green were sighted clutching the shoulders of their human hosts.
It was the biggest event of the season: $70,000 in gold doubloons was raised, which Captain John Schaffner said will be spent on a variety of items—besides rum—including senitor citizens golf carts for Seaview, and equipment for the Ocean Beach fire and rescue squads.
Seaview’s Marielle Bancou won the raffle booty: $2,000 for a trip to anywhere on the globe. Our crow’s nest correspondent reports that she has already booked her ticket to Paris .
