Around The Park

TIS THE SEASON—The traditional start is Harry Hanbury’s annual Kentucky Derby party and this year was no exception. The word-of-mouth event drew over 50, many putting house opening and other chores on hold to greet friends and catch up on news. And then it was off to the fire department’s annual May spaghetti dinner for more meeting and greeting. Two great events to welcome in the new season, now officially begun.

MEET YOUR NEWEST NEIGHBORS—After renting on Superior Street, Susan and Steve Bloom made it permanent by purchasing #29 from Rosemary and Danny Katz, who are off to Florida. Roger Deitz sold the Baywalk apartments (#33) and the adjoining little cottage at 2 Ontario to Rita and Mario Correale. The Correales have two teenage children, plan to summer in OBP and look forward to being part of the community. Chris Reinhardt now holds the deeds to 26 Traffic (was Polatchek) and 30 Seneca (was Shipp). Carene Wallace, who bought and flipped the Moyer house a few years ago, is returning to OBP. She purchased 26 Champlain from Noreen Pillitteri. The Muenches sold 19 Cayuga to Stephen Cassione, Theresa and Patrick Colgan, Matthew Love and Daniel Murphy. And Jeanine Pollack, the “world’s best guest,” will be a guest no more. Jeanine, Amanda, Amy and their families have moved (permanently) into 6 Michigan (was Marcuse). Let the bridge games begin.

COMMUNITY NEWS—The Fire Department Auxillary deserves kudos. This energized group, under the guidance of Prez Barbara Placilla, sponsors numerous events for the benefit of OBP. Their plant sale was virtually a “Chelsea Flower Show” and an easy fit for homeowners to beautify decks and homes. The two-day marathon gets bigger and better each year thanks to Barbara and her crew: Pat Vannoni, Ethel Lott, Aggie McShea, Ellie Mal, Adrianne Rasznusky, Jeanne Stuchbury, and Katherine Sekulo, et al. The Auxiliary has planned a health fair in conjunction with Southside Hospital for Saturday, June 24 at 10 a.m. at the firehouse. The fair offers advice on health-related issues and awareness on how to detect medical problems. Qualified technicians will test blood pressure and provide insights into preventive medicine and information on a myriad of subjects, including skin cancer, breast cancer, hypertension, etc. Best of all, it’s FREE. But you might want to bring along some cash to purchase something from the book and plant sale running in conjunction with the health fair.
