Fair Harbor Lights
By Nancy DeMeo

Don’t know if anyone has told you, but D.J. and Rose Jaffe are on a ’Round the World Trip. They have already started and are back in New York for a few weeks before they continue on. I’ve taken a segment of his email and included it below. D.J. said a number of people have asked him questions. Below are just two.

What made you decide to go around the world now?

Rose and I always wanted to do it, but always had excuses. One night at dinner, our friend Barbara Torrey, kept telling us to forget the excuses and just do it. That made an impression. At the end of 2005, Rose quit her job, and my job quit me. So it seemed the perfect time to take Barbara's advice.

Where do you go next?

We will probably make changes along the way, but around the end of the month, we go to Tokyo, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, India, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

And then back to Gibralter by March 1, 2007, when our one year ticket is up.

After that, if Rose and I are still talking, we will cross the mouth of the Mediterranean and go to Morocco, Mali and Timbuktu. There is nothing to do in Timbuktu, but no trip around the world is complete without it.

Letter to Us

Hi Laura.

I was just reading your column and thought you might like to add that over the winter we had a three- month-old grey seal beach itself in Fair Harbor. Riverhead Marine Rescue took him away. He was sick with diarrhea, but got better and was released. I too bought a house over the winter on Walnut and Central and am living here year round with my two children. They attended the Woodhull School this year.

Take care, Amanda Fabian
