Around the Park

The Changing Face of Ocean Bay Park—

Barbara Bilsted Browne lived in the Bilsted cottage from the day she was born. Several decades, children and grandchildren later she made a decision to expand the cottage to accommodate her growing family. No easy task to develop a design acceptable to Barbara, Suzanne, Mike and Kim that met criteria to maintain the original look—but they did. Barbara became the general contractor and hired Bob Funk as builder. The project is in its final stage and Barbara has nothing but praise for Bob Funk, his sub-contractors and Love. Now that’s a happy ending…

Pat and Lannie Vannoni added a story and have an upside-down beach house with ample bedrooms downstairs, a gorgeous living room upstairs, a state of the art kitchen, and a stairway to heaven. The outside circular staircase and roof deck provide a magnificent view of the bay—perfect for cocktails. And of course Lannie and his crew were the contactors…

Susan and Lewis Solish considered a small renovation to expand their house to three bedrooms but practically tore down the original house and rebuilt to better utilize the space. The main living area remained on the first floor; in fact, the dining area is back to where it was before Florence Nixon moved it for Janet and Steve David. Susan and Lewis added an opulent master suite and bath on the second floor and an outside deck—to enjoy bay sunsets. Ed Horton was their builder and they are delighted with his work and his sensible advice…

Susan Gurian’s house has had a major transformation. In addition to new siding, she gutted the inside and repositioned the kitchen, living and dining area to face the deck—so much better for entertaining. Bro-Con were the builders here…

Tim Mc Coy built his house with one bedroom upstairs for him and his friend, and an unconnected bedroom downstairs for his mom. In the seventies, Dorothy and Bob Greenwald connected the units and added a bedroom above the living room. Several years ago the house changed hands again and after living in situ for one year, new owners Katie and Sam Benrubi hired Jared Della Valle as architect and Bro-Con as contractors. Jared rejoined the lower and upper floors and redesigned the space. The Benrubis now have a magnificent flowing interior layout with killer views from many decks…
