OFF ISLAND— “JD” Deserio is on National Guard Maneuvers in Fort Dix—you would think that after serving in Iraq last year, they would give a guy a break… Virginia and Jim Lindsey touring East End wineries and Nantucket with their Carol, Linda and Diana… Rita and Wally Butler on a culinary tour of Tuscany and Umbria in Italy… Mary Anne and Jim Wolling drove to Toronto and Rochester to watch their 15 year-old grandson, TJ, compete with his ice-hockey team, the Houston Wild. TJ’s team won in Toronto, but didn’t do as well in Rochester. Going off– Samantha Kreloff, a recent graduate from Beacon (an independent NYC public high school) chose to go south to the University of Tampa instead of north to Syracuse– smart lady…

ARRIVING—On Friday, Al Ehrenclou (former owner of the Axelrod house) and Veronica (his bride of six weeks) to visit Susan and Irwin and introduce Veronica to Fire Island friends…On the 19th– Arlene Jaffe from Acapulco…

THE LADIES WHO MAH-JONGG—Sharon Gerson, Janet Lewis and Felice Andon signed up for Mah-Jongg lessons in New York and then persuaded Fran Lobo (her mom weaned her on the game) to play with them. Word spread, and now Marki Knopp, Wendi Schechter, Norma Weil and Harriet Annicharico have joined them. When is the OBP Mah- Jongg tile-off?...

UPCOMING EVENTS—On Saturday: The Fire Dept. Auxillary party at the firehouse—BLT is this year’s theme (black tie, lingerie and toga). Tickets are $35; call Robbie or Barbara (583 9653 or 583 9328). The get-ups alone will be worth the price of admission… Michael Vannoni appears in “An Evening of Classical Music” with Diana and Richard Hein and Joshua Greene on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Free Union Church in OB. It’s free admission… On Sunday: Guela Bensimon’s daughter Malka is hosting a celebration of her mom’s life at 1 p.m. at the firehouse. Anyone who knew and loved this remarkable lady is invited… An ongoing event—Kenny Goodman and Rachel Doering have collaborated to give Fire Island artists a chance to show their work. Artwork for sale (rotated every two weeks) will enhance the wall in Rachel’s and you will be able to enjoy the view, purchase art and dine. (Now how’s that for multi tasking?) PARTY, PARTY, PARTY —Maureen and Angelo Paladino entertained friends at a laid-back Friday supper featuring a star-filled sky, gentle ocean breezes, and Keeley Smith/ Louie Prima recordings… Mary Cummins and Vinnie Ficaro kicked-off their birthday weekends at the Paladino’s. Mary continued hers Saturday at the Hideaway, dining alfresco with a mainland firework display backdrop. Vinnie and the Starbase crew sailed to Capt. Bill’s to celebrate Vinnie’s 55th or is it 65th? Florrie Swinski initiated the first of her Sunday summer soirees. Our “Perle Mesta of the Bay” opens up her uniquely decorated home and provides food, librations and view. Her mix and match guests provide scintillating conversation…
