A new management plan is needed for Fire Island National Seashore to address a variety of new management issues that have emerged since the current plan was completed in 1977 and that are therefore not adequately addressed.  We are conducting these public scoping meetings this summer and fall tocreate a solid foundation upon which to build the new general management plan.

Superintendent Mike Reynolds noted “Over 500 people stopped by one of our 8 open house locations this summer to learn more about the planning process and share their thoughts with us.  The topics discussed were wide ranging from the condition of the boardwalks to deer management to vehicle use on the island to coastal erosion.  The one unifying theme was the passion with which people care about this place and its future. We are looking forward to equally well-attended and productive meetings this fall.”
